Sunny & Dan Vickers from Fort White in Florida had a wonderfully successful straw bale garden during Spring / Summer in 2015. Here’s a photo series showing the setup and progress of the garden from start to finish…

My husband and I are in our early 30’s with very little gardening experience. We LOVED our straw bale garden and how easy it was once we put in the initial work of setting it up, prepping, and planting. No weeds and a bountiful harvest! It was a joy and we can’t wait to get started on our next one! ~ Sunny Vickers

They grew a variety of heirloom tomatoes (all sizes: roma / slicing / grape), cucumbers, bush beans, zipper cream peas, bell peppers, zucchini and squash, hot peppers, and okra. According to Sunny, the tomatoes / cukes / and bell peppers were by far the most plentiful…

The garden was laid out into 4 separate rows inside a specifically designed fenced-in area…

An underground irrigation system was also added to get water to the garden, to make watering easily accessible. Here you can see the irrigation pipe inside a trench running back to the garden…
